Ally Henny writes and speaks about race, culture, and faith and as she puts it perfectly, “has interesting and important things to say.” . She is a leader, podcaster of Combing the Roots, and her first book launches soon so she reached out to create some branding and author imagery. She lives with her family on the South Side of Chicago and that was absolutely the perfect vibe for her Creative Portrait Session. Watch her facebook for announcements about her upcoming book and future expansion.
After she received her gallery Ally shared,
“I’m trying very hard not to share ALL OF THE PICTURES at once.
A couple of weeks ago, my publisher informed me that I needed an author picture for my book. I panicked. I don’t “do” professional photos very often and I had nary a picture that was equal to the task. And I needed them on relatively short notice.
I also wanted someone who wouldn’t just take my picture, but who could capture/create a vibe.
I sent a frantic message to Roxanne. She took impromptu pictures of a good friend of mine in the middle of a Chicago snow that looked like the stills for a documentary on Black intellectuals. If she could do that, I figured she could make me look like somebody.
She made room for me in her busy schedule and now I have MANY pictures.“
So excited to see what images she chooses for her book. Ally- thank you and blessings and protection as you continue to work for justice.
I’m a visual storyteller photographing emotion, connection, and the beauty in the messy.
I work with families, couples, and bold individuals to tell their stories with heart—
and partner with nonprofits and purpose-driven brands to share their impact with intention, dignity, and excellence.
