Saturday over 300 participants alongside World Relief staff, volunteers, and vendors joined World Relief Durham‘s 2nd annual Run for Refugees. I had the honor of photographing last year and this year and seeing the growth is so exciting. As Adam Clark, the Executive Director shared, “we are coming together – as people from all faiths, all backgrounds, and all perspectives to send one signal to the Triangle, to send a louder clearer message that together we will make sure the Triangle is a welcoming and just area for refuges and immigrants.” Megan Wylie lead the efforts with excellence and there was so much growth this year from last. It was a great family friend event including the timed 5K with awards for different age groups plus vendors set up. So many volunteers and participants made it a great morning.
I photographed the event and some of my kids ran alongside some amazing people. We met a group of refugees that came from Winston Salem to run and a teacher from Venezuela who ran and cheered on one of her students- who even got a medal! I am always reminded of how rich our community is when it embraces and includes diversity and grateful to partner with World Relief Durham as a volunteer and storyteller!
I’m a visual storyteller photographing emotion, connection, and the beauty in the messy.
I work with families, couples, and bold individuals to tell their stories with heart—
and partner with nonprofits and purpose-driven brands to share their impact with intention, dignity, and excellence.
