Crowned in Curls

Shauntay is a force of honest vulnerability and I had the pleasure of capturing her in Las Vegas recently. It was amazing to meet so many women I know knew from Instagram in real life. Shauntay‘s journey inspires me!

She shares some of her journey of embracing her amazing beauty and fire, “I grew up in a predominantly white space and I wanted to blend in but as you can see my hair is different.” Her journey took many years but she decided after seeing many women in Africa embrace short hair, natural hair, and bold colors that she was inspired to be herself fully without trying to fit in, “I’m ready to be myself and to do it for myself. I wanted to love everything that God created me to be.” She has worked hard to throw off the negativity and fear and live into her own personality and beauty. Shauntay knows how freeing and important this for her children as well, “I don’t have time to to be afraid of being myself because my main motivation is also that I do not want my kids to wait as long as I did to love and embrace themselves.”
