These ladies are on fire!

These women spent the morning sawing down trees by hand and burning invasive species in a forest preserve near Chicago and I was invited to join them and capture this unique (and pretty awesome if you ask me) all female crew.  They are part of the Student Conservation Association Midwest and receiving training and practical experience in the field.  Many of the young women shared some of their experiences and what they are learning doing this important work and it ranged from leadership skills, conservation knowledge, team work, job training, and how to keep those long nails from breaking while operating a chainsaw.  I chased them around as they worked hard all morning restoring native habitats in Whistler Woods and as one of them said and summed up beautifully “we don’t need to get a man to lift anything or help us because we got this.” Yes, they do. Here are some of my favorite images from our day and be certain you will see these women make positive impacts on their community and world. I’m grateful to have spent time learning from them about conversation and sharing stories.  Blessings ladies and thanks for allowing me to be a honorary crew member for the day- you are ON FIRE!
