Adventures in Turkey
Turkey was absolutely amazing- way underrated for international travel IMO. We adored it and the culture, food, people, and natural beauty is a must visit. We visited Istanbul- such a cool blend of East meets West and the food was so good and such a great value also highly recommend a stop at a Turkish Bath for a full body scrub. Visiting the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia you can get a better visual picture of the history of Turkey- the church turned mosque contain mosaics of Jesus that were covered with cloth and plaster- now some are uncovered when it became a mosque. The 2 doors; one facing Mecca and one facing Jerusalem tell a story of the changes in Turkey.
Then we headed to Cappadochia for a sunrise hot air balloon ride and stayed in a cave hotel. The landscape there is UNREAL- seriously looks like something out of a Star Wars movie. Cappadochia was not on our original itinerary but I am so glad we added it because it was our favorite location in Turkey. The hot air balloon ride at sunrise was a pretty epic way to celebrate 20 years of marriage. We spent 2 days hiking and seeing ancient sites including an underground city and ancient churches carved into save dwellings. We stopped over in Kusadasi and ended our time in Ephesus to see the ancient ruins and walk in the place of the recipient cities of the Pauline epistle. I was also grateful for time to just roam and explore the cities and create some street candid imagery; it is one of my absolute favorite things to do on vacation. Some local men playing a game were more than happy to allow me to document them and even through a language barrier you can learn so much.
