Jemar Tisby in Chicago

Jemar Tisby was in Chicago for some research and we made time to capture some updated Creative Portraits in Bronzeville in Chicago. Last time I had the honor of capturing him on his book tour it was FREEZING cold and this time we were seating running around the city but such is the weather in Chicago. The Bronzeville neighborhood has so much historical significance especially for Jemar Tisby’s work as a historian and his leadership in Anti- Racism. Bronzeville is rich and history and a vibrant part of the city. We headed to Paul Branton’s murals near the CTA Green Line stop in the neighborhood. Chicago is so rich in murals and art and this mural “I love the Skin I’m In” is a powerful declaration in a world that often denies the Imago Dei (Image of God) in People of Color. May we stand boldly for the created worth and value of all people and demand justice in our world. Jemar Tisby is doing that work and leading others.

We stopped by the Chicago Defender location and the historic Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church (which was also the site of the Joy & Justice conference in 2019.).

We had to stop in to Black owned coffee shop Sip & Savor (highly recommend the Honey Latte with Oakmilk) at the end of our session. Follow Jemar and learn from him and follow his journey.
